This course will provide basic knowledge of Vermont’s Essential Maintenance Practices (EMP) law and how to work safely with lead. This course fulfills the training and certification requirement described in the EMP law and is necessary prior to performing an inspection, paint stabilization, and maintenance on rental units and daycare facilities that were built before 1978, and filing the associated yearly Vermont EMP statements.
EPA’s Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (RRP) Rule requires that all firms and/or contractors, painters, electricians, plumbers, builders, and renovators that perform renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and pre-schools built before 1978 be certified by EPA (or an EPA-authorized state), or use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers and follow lead-safe work practices.
